Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or place entered in a search tool is sent directly to the outside provider that operates it. That provider processes the request and supplies its results. We do not keep a site-side log of those search terms.
Messages and Contact Submissions
An email or other direct message may be retained so we can answer it. We keep such correspondence within the organization unless disclosure is required by law.
Data We Gather Automatically
Our systems receive routine technical information when a page loads:
- Page-view dates, times, and visit length
- Your device category and operating system
- The referring website, when one is available
- Your assigned internet protocol address
- The browser type and version in use
- Pages opened during the visit
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small files stored on a device. Along with analytics services, they help measure traffic, popular pages, and where visits end. A browser can block cookies, though doing so may change how parts of the site function.
What We Do With This Data
- Route a search request to the selected outside service
- Find and repair performance or technical problems
- Measure which content is useful and where improvements are needed
- Operate the site and maintain reasonable loading speed
- Display advertising that may reflect general interests
No Criminal-Record Data on File
St. Lawrence County Criminal History does not maintain, compile, or sell a database of personal criminal records. It publishes general access information for the Sheriff, criminal courts, New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services, and New York State Sex Offender Registry. Visitor data is not assembled into third-party dossiers or consumer reports, and this site is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies operate the search boxes. Their privacy policies govern submitted information, and they set their own retention and disclosure practices. Review the applicable partner policy before running a search because this policy does not control that processing.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to St. Lawrence County offices, New York courts, DCJS, legal resources, or commercial search services. Once a visitor follows an outside link, that destination's privacy policy applies. Read it before providing personal information.
Advertising providers may use their own systems to measure activity across websites and select interest-based ads.
Who Might See Your Data
We do not sell personal information. Data may be disclosed to:
- Analytics providers measuring traffic and performance
- Search partners processing a query you choose to submit
- Advertising networks serving material on the pages
- Government or law-enforcement bodies acting under a valid legal demand
How We Protect Your Data
Reasonable, standard safeguards protect collected data. No internet service can guarantee perfect security, so we cannot promise that unauthorized access will never occur.
Users Under 18
The site is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If such data is identified, a request may be made for its deletion.
Your Data Rights
Applicable New York consumer-protection law, including General Business Law § 349, may provide rights in addition to those listed here. New York Freedom of Information Law governs access to government records, not data held by this private site. Criminal-history dissemination also follows record-specific law, including Correction Law § 168-l for registry disclosure and Criminal Procedure Law § 160.50 for sealed favorable terminations. A user may:
- Request correction of inaccurate personal information
- Ask what personal data we retain about you
- Seek deletion where applicable law permits it
- Decline certain processing when a legal opt-out applies
