Why We Built This Site
New York records do not sit in one public database. The St. Lawrence County Sheriff and Correctional Facility create law-enforcement and custody files, while court clerks maintain charges, appearances, and dispositions. DCJS is the only source of the state's official fingerprint-based criminal history, but it does not offer a public search of another person's rap sheet. WebCriminal, OCA Criminal History Record Search, DOCCS lookups, and the state registry each answer narrower questions. We organize verified contacts, access limits, search steps, and fees so those distinctions remain clear.
What You Will Find Here
- Record routes: how St. Lawrence County court, arrest, custody, and registry records differ
- Official search steps: how WebCriminal, OCA CHRS, and fingerprint-based DCJS personal review work
- Local contacts: where to reach the Sheriff, County Clerk, courts, and Correctional Facility in Canton
- Record sealing context: which New York court and DCJS channels address a person's own sealed or inaccurate record
What We Cannot Do
This is a privately run reference site, not part of St. Lawrence County or New York government. Its role has firm limits:
- We cannot issue a certified court copy, police report, booking file, or DCJS rap sheet
- We cannot submit a FOIL request, record-sealing motion, or correction challenge for a reader
- We do not run official background checks or retrieve a person's government record
- We cannot interpret a charge, order, or registry duty as legal advice
- We cannot promise that an agency's hours, fee, or procedure has not changed
An official record must come from its custodian, such as the Sheriff, court clerk, DCJS, DOCCS, or the New York State Sex Offender Registry.
Search Partners
Outside providers power some search boxes. They operate their own services, choose their prices, and control their results. A paid signup reached through one of those tools may generate a referral fee that supports this free reference. We do not set a partner's fee or decide which information its service returns.
